PETROGNANO

Poco sopra a Castagneto si trova il piccolo agglomerato di Petrognano con l’antica chiesetta di San Giorgio. Anche se non abbiamo notizie certe è da credere che l’edificio esistesse già nel XI secolo; successivamente la chiesa fu unificata con l’Abbazia di San Godenzo. Ospitò una comunità di Benedettini, poi dei Servi di Maria della SS. Annunziata di Firenze (1482). Nel 1784 la chiesa ritornò autonoma e fu affidata ai sacerdoti della Diocesi di Fiesole. Questa piccola chiesa di montagna presenta un aspetto modesto e dalle linee semplici, con un’unica navata. Nel 1919 venne gravemente danneggiata dal terremoto, ma fu completamente restaurata già nel 1938 grazie al parroco di quegli anni, Don Milani, e alla collaborazione di tutta la comunità.

 Just above Castagneto, lies Petrognano ,a small cluster of  homes with the ancient church of San Giorgio. Although we have no definite information, it is believed that the building already existed in the eleventh century; later the church was unified with the Abbey of San Godenzo. It hosted a community of Benedictine monks, then the Order of SS. Annunziata in Florence (1482). In 1784 the church returned autonomous and was entrusted to the priests of the Diocese of Fiesole. This small mountain church has a modest appearance and simple lines, with a single aisle. In 1919 it was severely damaged by an earthquake, but was completely restored in 1938 thanks to the parish priest of those years, Don Milani, and the collaboration of the entire community.
